    Risk Management

    What is Risk Management?

    Risk management is a model that is intended to continuously improve safety and minimize and/or prevent the occurrence of errors, events, and system breakdowns leading to harm to patients, staff, and visitors.

    What are the responsibilities of the Risk Manager?

    The Risk Manager, in collaboration with the Director of Operations/ Safety Officer and other staff, is responsible for:

    • Overseeing risk management activities, including investigating actual or potential clinical, operational, or business claims or lawsuits.  

    • Reporting of events to external organizations, per regulations and contracts, and communicating analysis and feedback of reported risk management and patient safety information to Westside for action.

    • Advising leadership on strategies to reduce unsafe situations and improve the overall environmental safety of patients, visitors, staff, and volunteers.

    • Supporting the implementation of strategies to reduce the probability of events that may result in losses to the physical plant and equipment (e.g., biomedical equipment maintenance, fire prevention).

    • Collecting and analyzing Learning Reports data to reduce the probability of occurrence of future related events.

    What is my role in risk management?

    • It is important you understand the role and responsibilities of your job.

    • Please speak to your manager or any manager if you have a concern or idea on how to make things safer.

    • Complete a Learning Report when something has happened or almost happened so we can try and prevent something from happening/almost happening again.
