Revenue cycle management (RCM) FAQ
Revenue cycle management (RCM) is a financial process that healthcare providers use to track, bill, and collect payments from patients and payers.
It includes a variety of tasks, such as:
Patient Registration
Insurance Verification
Claims Submissions
Patient Billing
Collections
Eligibility
Denials
RCM is important for maintaining financial viability and providing good service by making it easier for everyone to pay their bills. It can also help improve cash flow and reduce the number of days it takes to collect payments.
FAQs
What parts of the revenue cycle are outsourced to others?
Westside Family Healthcare partners with Coronis Global to process healthcare claims, post payments, maintain our PM software, and automate financial processes.
What parts of the revenue cycle are performed in-house?
Patient registration, awarding Sliding Fee Scale Levels, verifying eligibility, and maximum benefits are all parts of the revenue cycle that PSRs are primarily responsible for completing. Accurate registration is the MOST IMPORTANT part of the revenue cycle. The billing team handles a variety of tasks on the backend including encounter tracking, processing billing pool messages, denial management, answering coding questions, credentialing providers, and monitoring Key Performance Indicators.
What departments at Westside impact the revenue cycle?
The answer is that everyone in the organization has some impact on the revenue cycle, including clinical and operations. However, the revenue cycle begins with the scheduling and registration of patients. Accuracy and consistency in those two processes have a huge impact on the revenue cycle. If we don’t get the registration pieces right, it creates a domino effect of additional work for multiple departments and impacts cash flow significantly.
What is the best way to contact the revenue cycle team?
You can message “Revenue” on Teams to reach the internal team. This will ensure that if one of us is not available, the others on our team will receive your message. You can also email us with questions or concerns. Additionally, you can send a Billing Pool Message if your request relates to a specific patient.
