Injecting certain joints with numbing medicine (Lidocine) and/or a steroid can provide short-term relief of pain in some situations.

Setup (MA)
- Complete demographics portion of consent form.
- Verify if allergy to iodine or Betadine.
- Ensure all supplies are available and in procedure room.
Prepped on non-sterile counter
- Consent form (demographics completed)
- Sterile gloves (size above)
- Marking pen
- Alcohol wipes
- Betadine swabs
- Substitute Chloraprep swabs if allergic to iodine or Betadine.
- Syringe 5mL with needle, 18 g x 1” (for drawing medicine)
- Needle, 27 g x 1” (for administering) ****************depends on procedure, below
- Ethyl chloride spray
- Lidocaine (type above)
- Bupivicaine
- Steroid
- Bandaid
Procedure (Provider)
Before
- After reviewing procedure with patient, have patient sign consent form.
- Confirm allergies.
- Perform time out immediately before procedure.
After
- Remove all sharps from work stand and place in sharps container.
- Do not delegate this task.
